Dorothy Wellman Eulogy Dorothy was born in Prince Edward Island the third child of 9 children born to John and Lillian Gillespie. Dorothy spent most of her younger years in North Milton living on a farm. She was brought up by a wonderful Christian Mother who taught her children to love and protect each other. Dorothy exemplified these traits throughout her life by caring for her younger siblings and protecting them even as they grew older. Dorothy was the smallest in the family yet her big heart and brave soul made all the family feel safe they knew she was always their for them. At a young Dorothy married and gave birth to Roy and Michelle , she adored her children and their happiness meant everything to her you would often see her taking the children for a walk through the fields going on picnics or picking wild flowers. Dorothy could put her hand to anything from demolition to building her own house. Her sisters remember her gyprocing the first house they built her skills varied from carpenter work , bricklaying or putting together the most beautiful meal you could ever have .Their was always a welcome with a smile , a hug and you never left her home without feeling her wonderful hospitality. After a failed marriage Dorothy decided to start a new life in Ottawa . Working as a cook a trait she inherited from her mother who was an amazing cook. As destiny would have it the restaurant she worked at was where she met her current husband Kevin Wellman. It was love at first site . Dorothy and Kevin were married on a beautiful summer day August 21, 1993 and they spent 15 wonderful years together. They loved to camp and take trips back home. Dorothy had 5 grandchildren whom she adored. They gave her such joy - Ashley with her sweet disposition and academic achievements, Katie with her sweet personality and ambitions, Josh with his musical and athletic abilities - she loved to watch him play soccer, Hailey who she loved to hear sing and little Nathan’s hugs and kisses. Her love will always be with them. Her family remembers her as a very beautiful and compassionate person. She cared for the underdog. She was always there to cheer them on. She for the needy. One sister remembers her giving her lunch to a homeless person, another remembers her buying groceries for a stranger who did not have enough to pay for what she needed. She always had a way of making everyone feel special. Dorothy loved to decorate and put on special dinners at home and for the residence at the Cumberland Lodge where she last worked .Her decorating skills included wedding cakes ,floral arrangements and decorating her home every special occasion was made even more special by her loving touch. Dorothy loved a sing song she enjoyed playing the guitar and the accordion. As young children on the farm when there was no way to get to church mother would line up the kitchen chairs and Dorothy would often lead the hymn sing. Dorothy gave her life to the Lord and was recently baptised. Dorothy was a great believer in God. She felt comfort in serving a loving and caring God who answered many of her prayers. Her family and friends will always miss her. Her love and her memory will always be cherished.
